Almost all therapists and counselors agree that the relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in determining progress in the therapy. There is no harm in setting up an initial session to see how it feels to work together.
I do encourage people to remember that p
sychotherapy/counseling can be quite an endeavor, and at times it is difficult and challenging. However, I feel this process is ultimately reinvigorating and that the rewards of therapy are life-long.
My practice is informed by psychoanalysis starting with Freud, the person-centred approach through the work of Carl Rogers, and by continental philosophical thinkers such as Emmanuel Levinas.
Of late, my favorite author is Nassim Nicolas Taleb.
